Like most industry conferences last year, Flash Memory Summit 2020 went virtual for the first time on November 10-12, 2020, giving Advantest the opportunity to demonstrate its support of the storage and memory test industry. Advantest’s product showcase theme, End-to-End Flash and SSD Test Solutions, was reinforced by its virtual exhibit featuring cutting-edge MPT3000 and T5800 series memory testers.
Advantest experts strategically leveraged digital collateral such as product videos, panels, and images to exhibit the latest product information to more than 3,000 conference attendees. With nearly all industry events going virtual this year, continuously learning how to adapt to an on-screen conference environment provided Advantest with imperative insight on how to effectively engage with strategic customers and prospective customers online.
As the world continues to navigate the uncertainty of COVID-19, Advantest is determined to continue fostering its valuable relationships with its customers, partners, and employees. Advantest hopes to see you at next year’s Flash Memory Summit, currently scheduled for August 3-5, 2021 in Santa Clara, California.
For the first time, the SEMICON West 2020 trade show commenced on July 20-23, 2020 as a full-on virtual event. To stay connected with its customers, Advantest returned as a Gold Sponsor and exhibited a virtual booth featuring graphics and videos of its latest end-to-end IC test solutions for cutting-edge applications such as 5G and artificial intelligence (AI).
Drawing nearly 480 booth visitors, Advantest showcased its novel V93000 Wave Scale™ RF8 card for testing 5G-NR transceivers and connectivity-ICs operating at frequencies up to 8GHz, along with its new myAdvantest online portal, a platform providing 24/7 access to web-based services including the new Test Engineering Cloud (TE-Cloud™). Other displays included comprehensive test cell solutions for AI and high-performance computing (HPC) applications using the V93000, T5800 series, or T5503 testers; Advantest Test Solutions (ATS) and the MPT3000 series test platform for integrated system-level test (SLT); and an array of software tools and services for enhancing test performance.
Advantest was also a sponsor of the Test Vision Symposium and presented live during two of the sessions. Adrian Kwan, senior business development manager, presented on “5G NR Semiconductor Test Challenges”, and Zhi-Jun Xue, consulting manager, presented on “Test Cell Management for Enabling SMART Manufacturing”. For the SMART Mobility Pavilion, Masashi Nagai, senior executive director, presented “Driving for Perfection: Finding the Optimum Test Solution for Next-Generation Automotive ICs” which was made available for on-demand viewing.
To support the next generation of industry professionals, Advantest sponsored and participated in the SMART Workforce Pavilion and SEMI’s High-Tech U program for the third consecutive year. This career development program was designed to inspire and assist college-level students with their job search during these uncertain times. Advantest contributed a video featuring anecdotal tips for navigating a virtual job search environment.
Joining in on the first virtual SEMICON West was a valuable, unique experience for Advantest. The SEMI virtual trade show served numerous industries including the semiconductor, sensors, MEMS, photonics and the automotive sector. With 67 different countries represented at the event, it presented us with an opportunity to demonstrate both our commitment to the semiconductor industry and our ability to continuously adapt to new ways of collaborating and networking with our global customers, partners and employees. Our “yes” attitude, which is a component of Advantest’s core values, allows us to take the bold steps needed to be at the forefront of innovative technologies and leadership.
Reacting swiftly to the cancellation of some of the industry’s most critical trade shows and gatherings, Advantest hosted a virtual tradeshow on March 10-11 to share valuable technical and market data with its customers worldwide without risking attendees’ exposure to potential illness from the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Using web conferencing, technical experts from Advantest presented the newest semiconductor-testing technologies and best practices as well as interacted with strategic partners, and current and potential customers. The online forum also featured talks on the state of the industry and market outlook from two senior executives of SEMI, the global industry organization representing the electronics-manufacturing supply chain.
Advantest hosted its first virtual tradeshow with the goal of maintaining the flow of valuable technical, industry and market data among employees, customers and partners worldwide. Nearly 200 attendees representing 47 companies attended the informative, online sessions presented in multiple languages.
The success of this unique virtual tradeshow focusing on the semiconductor test industry shows the power of reacting quickly to changing market conditions to provide a valuable service to customers. The event addressed the industry’s information needs and provided opportunities for members of the global test community to interact with each other.
Recordings of the virtual tradeshow presentations are available until June 1.

Advantest announced the postponement of its VOICE 2020 Developer Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz., due to health and safety concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. The two-day conference will now take place September 29-30, 2020, with a Workshop Day on October 1. The Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia in Scottsdale will remain the venue for VOICE 2020.
VOICE Program Remains Unchanged
Designed by test engineers for test engineers, the core of the VOICE Developer Conference remains its extensive learning and networking opportunities, including a technical program featuring more than 60 presentations with submissions from authors representing 28 companies from 11 countries, a partners’ expo, a technology kiosk showcase, innovative keynote speakers and social gatherings as well as a full day of workshops.
The technical program will feature hot topics, including artificial intelligence (AI) and SmarTest 8 software, new tracks on DC parametric and 5G testing, as well as device/system-level test, test methodologies, hardware and software design integration and Advantest’s T2000 platform. The Workshop Day will consist of sessions covering 5G/mmWave, V93000 test program generation and power/analog device testing. In addition, a technology kiosk showcase at VOICE will offer attendees the opportunity to interact directly with Advantest product experts.

Advantest’s booth was centrally located in the South Hall alongside other large semiconductor companies and featured the new theme, “5G: Made Real by Our Customers, Made Possible by Advantest.”
In Booth 939, Advantest showcased several products including the new, and “Best of West” award finalist, V93000 Wave Scale Millimeter solution, the industry’s first integrated and modular multi-site millimeter-wave (mmWave) ATE test solution to cost-effectively test 5G-NR mmWave devices up to 70 GHz. Other displays included information on the new Advantest Test Solutions (ATS) for SoC system-level test; the MPT3000 platform for solid state-drives (SSD); T5500-series and T5800-series memory test platforms; and an array of software tools and services to improve overall productivity and test quality. The booth also contained a unique automotive display illustrating how the T2000 series of testers is improving the performance and reliability of broader types of automotive devices, from sensors, processors and powertrains to communication systems.
In addition to having a presence on the show floor, Advantest was a sponsor of the Test Vision Symposium and presented during two of the sessions. Kotaro Hasegawa, system planning senior director, presented a paper titled, “New SiP Packaging Trends and Testing Challenges” during the Packaging and Test session and then Adrian Kwan, senior business development manager, took part in an interactive panel discussion about how 5G has changed the way devices are tested titled, “Addressing Challenges of 5G Test Today and in the Future.”
On the evening of Wednesday, July 10, Advantest customers and industry members gathered for the annual Advantest Customer Hospitality Event hosted at first-time venue Local Edition, a subterranean cocktail bar in the depths of the historic Hearst building. Over 200 attendees networked to the backdrop of live music by classically trained violinist Gabi Holzwarth.
Throughout the conference, Advantest sponsored and participated in the award-winning SEMI High Tech U program, which gives high school students the opportunity to explore the semiconductor industry and develop skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Advantest employees led modules on engineering design challenges, critical thinking, and social media; conducted mock interviews; and fielded industry questions during booth tours.
